Yesterday Microsoft took one step closer towards its master plan of living room domination with the powerful secret weapon in its popular XBox 360 gaming unit, the extender functionality.

Microsoft announced the upcoming availability of the XBox 360 Elite which will include a 120GB hard drive and will increasingly be marketed and positioned as an entertainment hub, even more than a gaming machine.

And I have to say it's brilliant. I'm glad to see Microsoft taking a more aggressive position with regards to the XBox 360 as a home media distribution platform. I'm sure that in part this marketing message has been crafted to counter Apple's (AAPL) recently released iDongle for your TV.

The television revolution .UK

The television revolution is not one of on-demand viewing or spectacular interactivity. It's

simpler, IPTV introduces internet technology to broadcasting, which is a massively different

mechanism of delivering video. Traditional broadcast ... one signal that anyone can receive. But

Internet lets every viewer have their own personal copy of a piece of content, or personal link

of some kind to the originating broadcaster;then a viewer request is made, and a broadcaster

response is given in return completing the process.

WHOES PLAYING:Nearly all the main ISPs that control 95 per cent of the UK broadband market now have a TV play.

The cable companies have merged and re-branded as Virgin.

BT is launching its Vision hybrid.

Sky has bought Easynet.

Tiscali has acquired Homechoice

Orange is consolidating across Europe and launching its BT clone, Namesco.

Eclipse are launching off the Netgem and BT Max platforms.

Carphone Warehouse has bought AOL UK, and Pipex is acquiring to get fatter.

IPTV offers all the strengths of the internet with none of its weaknesses. It means everything

from the internet, with rich-quality, interference-free DVD video on-demand.

Internet Advertising Revenue topping more than $2.8 Billion
ad dollars are being diverted from the TV and moved to the Net where more of today's teens are spending time...here are some hot meadia platforms.

ManiaTV.com is an interesting site. It's gone from zero to 1.5 million visitors per month since September last year. Music videos that stream, videos that can be requested, message boards, giveaways, video interviews with performers and bands, video product demos, and on and on. A lot of the stuff isn't to my interest, but I can spot a solid creative business model when I see one. The level of interactivity and participation by visitors is impressive and progressive. Visitors with webcams can even upload their comments and join the content. So far, Levi's, Dodge and t

Free movie downloads are more common than you think on the Web. You won't find the most recent blockbuster here, but you will find a huge amount of classics, trailers, independent films, documentaries, and more. There are also a lot of illegal, pirated-movie download sites out there that we don't recommend and won't dignify with publishing the names or links of. Some of them are no more than web interfaces for file-sharing technologies like Bittorrent. When a site claims "all free" movies (which they make you pay a site subscription for), you can bet it's one of these.

The legal movie sites claim to take the trip to the video store or that wait for mail from Netflix out of your home theater viewings. Is the convenience worth it? What do you gain and what do you lose when switching to internet-delivered entertainment? http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2078459,00.asp
